After several years of commercial litigation at two large Michigan law firms, Scott founded Erskine Law as its principal shareholder in 2004.  Scott has successfully tried cases involving automobile negligence, contract disputes, insurance claims, warranty cases, and UCC claims.   In addition, Scott has defended several cases that have been dismissed on summary judgment motions, including claims of premises liability, negligence, design defect, breach of warranty, breach of contract, claim and delivery, fraud, misrepresentation, agency, infliction of emotional distress, assault, battery and unjust enrichment.  Scott has argued multiple times before the Michigan Court of Appeals, and has also appeared before the Connecticut Supreme Court on a tax matter.   Scott has been counsel for Ford Motor Company since 1998, handling Ford warranty litigation in both Michigan and California.  In addition to Ford, Scott has successfully represented and tried cases for Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC, Chrysler, Palm Harbor Homes, Inc., Fleetwood Homes, Inc., and a variety of other smaller and mid-size companies.  Scott has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan and a Juris Doctor from Michigan State University College of Law. He was named a Michigan Super Lawyer in 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2015. 
Mary Arens

Mary’s practice has been exclusively dedicated to the defense of consumer automotive warranty litigation since 2000. She began her career at Baker Hostetler LLP, where she defended lemon law, warranty and consumer fraud lawsuits for multiple manufacturers, including Ford Motor Company, Jaguar Land Rover, Maserati, Lotus, as well as multiple motorcycle manufacturers. During her fifteen years at Baker Hostetler, Mary worked in the Columbus, OH and Costa Mesa, CA offices, while actively defending Ford in both states and managing litigation in multiple other jurisdictions. In January, 2015, Mary joined Erskine Law, where her practice remains dedicated to warranty defense litigation in California. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Notre Dame, and a Juris Doctor from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law.
Ken Miller

While in his second year of law school, Ken began his legal career in Ford’s Office of General Counsel, as a warranty litigation case manager. He supervised cases in Michigan, Texas, Illinois, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho and Colorado. After graduating from law school, Ken began working in the area of white-collar/complex criminal defense and also handled a large environmental ground water contamination case on behalf of a local municipality. Ken’s expertise in complex litigation and his ability to write computer code made him a perfect fit in the field of mass toxic tort litigation. For several years, Ken worked in asbestos litigation and supervised a team of attorneys and paralegals with over 6000 active asbestos product liability cases. In 2004, Ken assisted in the creation of the Erskine Law Group where he is still an attorney today representing Ford Motor Company. Ken is also a 13-year veteran of the United States Navy. He served in the first Gulf War as an explosive ordnance disposal diver. His team cleared underwater mines off the coast of Iraq. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for heroic actions (with “V”) and the Combat Action ribbon. He was also named Reserve Sailor of the Year for the U.S. Atlantic Fleet in 1994. Ken has a Bachelor of Science degree from Charleston Southern University and a Juris Doctor from the University of Detroit Mercy.
Natalie Yaw

Natalie has years of litigation experience in complex commercial matters. Prior to joining Erskine Law, she was an attorney at a national law firm based in Detroit and then Vice President and Senior Counsel for Citizens Financial Group, Inc., where she managed a large volume of nationwide complex litigation. In 2013, Governor Snyder appointed Natalie to the Michigan Employment Relations Commission, where she serves as one of three Commissioners resolving labor disputes involving public sector employees. She also serves as Vice Chancellor to the Episcopal Diocese of Michigan and as a Board Member of the Motor City Lyric Opera. She has written and lectured on legal topics relating primarily to litigation, discovery, and real property law of religious institutions. Natalie has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from Rice University and a Juris Doctor, summa cum laude, from Michigan State University College of Law.

Prior to joining Erskine Law Group in 2009, Margaret spent 17 years at Ford Motor Company as a member of the Office of the General Counsel. She practiced law in the Distribution and Trade Regulation Group, Discovery Group, and General Litigation Group.  Margaret also has experience as a Management Consultant for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, working in the General Motors Consulting Services Group from 1988-1990. She has a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Michigan Ross School of Business in 1988, and a Juris Doctor from the University of Michigan Law School. Margaret is married with two children and her interests include reading, traveling and scuba diving.

Prior to joining Erskine Law in 2015, Anne was employed by Ford Motor Company for 30 years as a paralegal in the Office of the General Counsel. She worked in the Product Litigation Group for seven years, the Discovery Group for four years, and the Consumer Litigation Group for nineteen years.  Anne also previously worked as a paralegal at the Jaffe Raitt Heuer & Weiss law firm from 1984-85. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan and received her ABA approved Paralegal Certificate from Roosevelt University in Chicago.

Steve joined Erskine Law in 2007, after a career at Chrysler as an engineer and later as an attorney in the Office of the General Counsel. His practice focuses on finding lost assets for businesses and individuals, and has recovered approximately $80,000,000.00 to date. Steve has a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan State University and a Juris Doctor from Wayne State University. He is married with three (and counting) grandchildren and his interests include reading, traveling and old vehicles.

Prior to joining the Erskine Law Group in 2015, Sean was a Legal Analyst and Quality Control Supervisor for the Independent Foreclosure Review.  Upon completion of the Independent Foreclosure Review, Sean began practicing in complex civil litigation, real estate litigation, and small business transactional work.  He has represented clients with a global reach and billions of dollars in assets in both Federal and State matters, as well as small town non-profit organizations that needed assistance in obtaining tax exemption status, entity formation, and lease negotiations.  Sean received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the California State University, Fullerton and a Juris Doctor from Ohio Northern University.

Jeremy Nowland

Jeremy has over 15 years of legal experience, beginning as a paralegal for a large Michigan law firm in 2009. There, he specialized in high volume e-discovery and warranty litigation case management for one of the “Big Three.” While in law school, Jeremy continued to work in other facets of automotive-related legal work, including e-discovery management in patent litigation. After receiving his Juris Doctor from Western Michigan University Thomas M. Cooley Law School and a short stint as a solo general practitioner, Jeremy joined Erskine Law in April of 2014. Jeremy currently represents our automotive clients in over 100 lemon law and breach of warranty matters. He also assists in the defense of automotive product liability subrogation claims. Aside from his career, Jeremy is most proud of his role as a husband and father of two children. In rare moments of downtime, Jeremy enjoys many hobbies, including a long-time passion for motorsports, playing guitar, cycling, and reading.

Michael A. Ohly is an attorney specializing in product liability defense and has handled hundreds of subrogation matters, including defense of high exposure claims in excess of $1,000,000.  He also represents clients in diverse areas of civil litigation, including appellate matters ranging from administrative appeals to cases before the Michigan Court of Appeals. Michael also counsels businesses by providing corporate governance advice, contractual review, and business planning solutions. He serves indigent clients through the Oakland County Bar Association and volunteers as an intake attorney with MACC Legal, Detroit. Prior to joining the firm in 2015, Cindi worked as a home health/hospice aid at Mercy Home Care and Hospice, and before that as a caregiver in an Alzheimer’s and dementia facility. She has a continued passion for assisting the elderly and still cares for three patients in her spare time.
Dorian Phipps

Dorian is originally from East Orange, New Jersey. He graduated from Bloomfield College in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration: General Management. Shortly after graduation, he and four friends formed a legal courier service called 504 Express Legal Courier; aptly named after their college dorm room number. He was the Operations Manager for nine years, employing 30 employees and sub-contractors. He expedited and distributed legal documents to Courthouses, Law Offices and Mortgage Companies; servicing the Tri-State (New Jersey, New York City and Pennsylvania) areas. In 1992, the company received honors from the Newark Municipal Council for their commitment to Enterprise Excellence and Minority Economic Development. In 1998 he was hired by the law firm of Secrest, Wardle, and Lynch as a Clerk Runner. Dorian was later transferred to the Ford Warranty Team where he met Scott Erskine and gained paralegal experience in warranty litigation. In 2002, he became the Head Clerk at Harvey Kruse, PC, where he coordinated court filings and logistics in the mailroom before joining Erskine Law in 2004. From 2000 to the present, Dorian has also been employed with the United States Postal Service as a Mail Processing Clerk. He and his wife, a native Detroiter, have been married since 1996.

Jonathan is a resident and native of the San Francisco Bay area, and primarily handles Erskine Law’s Northern California caseload. He came to the firm in 2014 with a strong background in general liability prosecution and defense, anti-SLAPP litigation, and medical malpractice. Jonathan has represented the firm’s clients in scores of mediations, depositions, and court hearings throughout California. Jonathan graduated in 2011 from the University of San Francisco School of Law, cum laude, and has been named to Super Lawyers’ Rising Stars list. When not practicing law, Jonathan enjoys his time at home with his wife and three young daughters, hiking in the nearby mountains and beaches, and watching the Golden State Warriors.
